Julian Claxton
About Me
I advise individuals and organisations dealing with sensitive issues involving people, trust and behavioural risk. My work often supports those in high stakes environments including executives, legal counsel, board members and others responsible for protecting reputations, relationships and critical information.
With more than 30 years of experience across behavioural analysis, credibility assessment and technical surveillance threat detection, I help clients navigate uncertainty with clarity and discretion. Many of those I work with remain clients for years, trusting me to handle difficult matters with integrity, independence and a deep understanding of human behaviour.
My academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Communication, Behaviour and Credibility Analysis, supported by postgraduate studies in investigative interviewing, behavioural profiling and forensic linguistics. This foundation allows me to identify early indicators of manipulation, deception or insider risk, often before they become visible to others.
Alongside my advisory work, I mentor senior professionals and regularly contribute to industry forums as a keynote speaker. I have presented at conferences across Australia, the United Kingdom and North America on topics including technical surveillance countermeasures, deception detection, behavioural risk and the subtle science of influence and trust.
Those who engage me are often looking for someone who can quietly bring structure to complexity, someone who can read between the lines, ask the right questions and offer practical insight when it matters most.

My work often supports senior leaders, principals and trusted decision-makers facing high-stakes challenges involving people, trust and internal risk.
Whether offering behavioural insight, discreet mentoring, or strategic counsel on sensitive matters, I provide calm, independent guidance when discretion and clarity are critical.
With a background in behavioural science, credibility assessment and counterespionage, I bring both academic insight and practical experience to complex human problems that don’t come with a playbook.
Industry Engagement
Participation in Presentations, Panels and Professional Forums
I actively contribute to professional discussions on behavioural risk, insider threats, and surveillance countermeasures. In recent years, I have presented at or participated in forums hosted by ASIS International, the University of New South Wales, the Australian National University, and the defence sector, as well as at major conferences including CyberCon (Melbourne), the Insider Threat Summit (Monterey, California), and the Behavioural Analysis Conference (UK).
These engagements reflect a long-standing commitment to advancing the profession and sharing insight across both national and international security communities, where I contribute research-informed perspectives to evolving conversations at the intersection of behaviour, trust and security.
